And the deafening alarm just wouldn't go off and the fact that the damn thing was blasting away to glory at midnight was all the more discomforting. I woke up from my sleep only to realize that some damn car's theft alarm had gone awry and was shouting at regular intervals like some crazy wife torturing her husband at midnight.
After a few failed attempts to ignore the screeching sound, I finally decided to go down and take a stock of the situation. Initially I thought, the sound was coming from the nearby building but I was proved wrong the moment I stepped into the parking of my apartment. The sound was coming from a car, whose owner has been out of the country since some months. Even people from nearby apartments had gathered and were shouting at us, as if we were only responsible for the mess. I wasn't surprised by their irresponsible behavior. Most educated illiterates are like that only.
Fortunately, one of his friends had the car keys and he came and opened the car. We managed to cut off the wire of the alarm and the sound stopped. Much to my relief as I had to get up at 6 the next morning as we had planned to visit the Gomateshwara Temple in Shravan Belgola by car. And as I was the only driver in the lot, a good night's sleep was essential for me. And this alarm incident had already disturbed my sleep. Hence, after it was over, I just went to sleep to get up early in a few hours.

This was by far, the best birthday I could ever have had experienced in my entire life. I will be going into the reason for the specialness of this birthday in a while but before that I need to share a thing about that phone call that I got while I was in an office meeting. It was the 19th of September 2011 and I was in an office meeting when I got a call from an unknown number. Reluctantly, I picked up the phone, thinking I will tell the caller to call later. But, when the voice at the other end, started speaking, I just had to listen before I could say a word.
The voice said (in Hindi), "Is this Virag?"
I said, "Yes".
She then said, "This is Harshita calling from the Rajya Sabha. We have received a petition from you with regards to the "Protection of Women at the Sexual Harassment Workplace Bill, 2010" and the committee would like to hear your views."
I said, "OK....."

As I walked out of the office meeting, I just couldn't wait to start off for a vacation planned without much planning or advanced notice. It was obvious I had started to lose interest in the mundane office work, looking forward to the journey ahead.
It was a Saturday evening (20th August 2011) when I came to know that the Save Indian Family (SIF) chapter of Mumbai has organized a protest against the "Domestic Violence Act". Being a Men's Rights Activist (MRA), it was but natural for me to get tempted to attend the event but the notice was quite short for me to arrange the trip from Bangalore to Mumbai as the event was happening just 8 days from that day - 28th August 2011.
But, as I was determined to go, called up a fellow MRA in Pune and he said, he is also planning to attend, my hopes soared. I asked him, if I could join him - he agreed. Then the imminent challenge before me was to decide the mode of travel to Pune. Checked out flight tickets and finding them way over-budget (courtesy the short notice), thought of trying trains but in vain as the site refused to respond.
Exasperated, I tried bus route and was lucky enough to get the tickets. As the tickets for Bangalore to Pune and back to Bangalore got confirmed in bus, the next imminent challenge was to get the tickets from Pune to Mumbai and back. The MRA from Pune, Atit, helped me with that.
