Today, 3rd June 2010 was a great day for citizens in general and RTI activists in particular. For the uninitiated, RTI Act stands for "Right to Information Act" which was passed in the year 2005 to ensure good governance. This Act is a powerful tool in the hands of citizens to nail corrupt bureaucrats, popularly known as Babus. This Act empowers citizens to demand any information from the Babus pertaining to Governance, expenditure and actions taken by the various Govt. Depts.

As per Section 4(1) (a) and Section 4(1) (b), the Govt. authorities are supposed to display the names of Public Information Officers (PIOs), Assistant Public Information Officers (APIOs), Appellate Authorities (AAs), so that citizens do not face harassment while filing applications and know whom to file.

All the characters in this blog are imaginary and bear no resemblance to any person living or dead. Any such resemblance is purely co-incidental.

Robin and Ross are two good friends. Robin has an uncanny habit of presenting simple things in a complex way. And Ross just hates it. But their friendship was strong enough to curtail the local Tsunamis rising in between them.

Here is an example of how their conversation goes,

Robin: The exceptionally lowered temperatures are working wonders on my hesitant-to-adjust metabolic psychology.

Ross: Sorry?

Robin: My underpaid kidneys are working overtime.

Before starting on the main content, let's have a look at what is the principle of laissez-faire. Its dictionary definition says,

"The theory or system of government that upholds the autonomous character of the economic     order, believing that government should intervene as little as possible in the direction of economic affairs."

The principle talks of least possible Govt. interference in economic matters. However Govt. interference is also least warranted in other sensitive areas of socio-economic scenarios as well. One of them is the family structure. Let us first see how Govt. interference the way it is now, harms the family structure.

Well we all know media loves sensationalism and that’s a very big survival strategy for them. The media rides on sensationalism and news that create sensation. It’s a jargon actually in the media, “A dog biting a man is no news however a Man biting a dog is news”. And in today’s competitive world with over a dozen odd news channel floating around on air, the competition for sensationalism and the race for being the first to grab the TRP horse by the neck, just got hotter.

And it is also a habit of the media to somehow cross link various happenings and give a different interpretation to it. Now with the recession setting in, TV Today Group, the one behind Headlines Today and Aajtak news channels, thought of doing a story on how “Recession affects those husbands who have to pay maintenance to their litigating wives.” Accordingly, the group correspondents contacted the Save Indian Family Foundation members in Bangalore and told them that the theme for the show was to project how husbands who are forced to pay maintenance to their estranged wives view recession affecting their situation.

Family, the social unit, is the backbone of any country's progress. The more stronger and stable is the family system of a country, better is the country's progress. The most unique thing about family is the trust factor. However, in recent times, since the last decade or so, the family system of India is on a downhill. One of the major reasons of that, contrary to popular perception, is not due to modernization or western influence, but it is due to over-indulgence and interference of the Government as we will see it in the article.

Before talking about the interference of the Government, I would like to mention here about the principle of Laissez-Faire. The principle of Laissez-Faire tells that -

"The theory or system of government that upholds the autonomous character of the economic     order, believing that government should intervene as little as possible in the direction of economic affairs."

Sneak a Peek

The Wheel Turns

Today we see cricket as an emerging alternative career option with what all these young cricketers becoming role models for today’s youth.
